Family Therapy in Columbus, Ohio

Families don't come with instructions, and when one person is struggling, everyone feels it. Family therapy at ClearView Counseling Columbus takes a whole-family, strength-based approach. No one in the family is the problem; the problem is the problem, and we work on it together. I help kids, parents and families understand how challenges affect each person, learn to support one another, and discover how small changes can make a big difference at home. How Whole Family Therapy Can Help

Parenting challenges

Get support for power struggles, discipline and parenting through hard seasons, so parents and kids can rebuild respect and connection on both sides.

Divorce adjustment

Help children and parents adjust to separation, new routines, two households, co-parenting and big feelings about change.

Complex family dynamics

Blended families, stepparents, sibling conflict, extended family stress and patterns that repeat across generations. Together, we look at how challenges ripple through the family and find ways everyone can support one another.

Families grieving together

Grief affects every family member differently. Family therapy helps you grieve the loss of a loved one together, understand each other's reactions and support one another.

Emotional regulation

Help kids and teens manage outbursts, withdrawal, defiance and big feelings, including ADHD- and ODD-related challenges, while parents learn responses that calm the whole household.

What family sessions look like

Family sessions are 60 minutes and may include the whole family, a parent and child, or a few members at a time depending on the goal. We focus on improving communication, building understanding between family members and creating healthier patterns at home, using evidence-based and solution-focused strategies tailored to your family.

Family Therapy FAQ

Does everyone have to come to every session?

No. We'll decide together who joins which sessions based on what will help most.

Is family therapy only for families in crisis?

Not at all. Many families come in during a transition to prevent bigger problems later.

What if my child or teen doesn’t want to come?

That’s really common, and it’s okay. Many kids feel nervous or unsure at first. We’ll start where your family is, sometimes with a parent session first, and work to make sessions feel comfortable and low-pressure so everyone can find their way in.
